Our unit is a specialised unit related to the Endemic Medicine Department at Kasr Alainy medical school, Cairo University, Egypt. It was established at an era where bilharzial liver disease was an endemic disease in Egypt. At the early beginning it was responsible for research regarding Bilharzial liver disease and its complications in addition to social services, health education and mass treatment. Later the unit played a major role in researching, screening and treatment of viral hepatitis including chronic hepatitis B and C.
