Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Knowledge (k.AU.1)

• K.AU.1.1: Recognise the concept of abdominal ultrasound imaging.

• K.AU.1.1: Recall the indications and uses of abdominal ultrasound.

• K.AU.1.2: Recognise the normal anatomy of the abdominal structures in ultrasound imaging.

• K.AU.1.3: Review the different pathologies of the abdominal structures in US imaging.

Skills (S.AU.1)

• S.AU.1.1: Identify the different modes, probes of the ultrasound machine and its functions.

• S.AU.1.2: Operate on the ultrasound machine efficiently.

• S.AU.1.3: Identify the base of knobology (operating keys) of an ultrasound machine.

• S.AU.1.4: Hold, slide, angulate and place the ultrasound probe correctly.

• S.AU.1.5: Perform abdominal ultrasound examination in a systematic manner.

• S.AU.1.6: Identify, locate & comment on liver, spleen, gall bladder, kidneys, pancreas & related vessels.

• S.AU.1.7: Perform safe practice in ultrasound.

Course Description

The course will comprise lectures and hands on training. Each trainee will be able to examine multiple patients with different diagnoses. At the end of the course each candidate will be assessed on cases by the trainer.
